Turning disappointment into opportunity

October 14,2019

On the weekend the RSM team attended the 2019 Heritage Bank Business Excellence Awards and we were very fortunate to be a Finalist in the Professional Business Consultancy division.

Unfortunately we didn’t take out the award on the night and to be totally honest I felt really shattered. My disappointment wasn’t a reflection on any of the other businesses that won (we were very excited for our Toowoomba peers), however, it prompted me to take a good hard look in the mirror and ask myself – “why am I so disappointed that we didn’t win?”

It has been a BIG year, a tougher year with some massive hours and managing our growth has often meant sacrifice – sacrificing time with family and friends.

After spending some time yesterday reading our application (and nursing my sore head) I realised that losing wasn’t the issue and while it would’ve been great to be recognised in our field I shouldn’t need an award to validate our business’ success.

At the end of the day everyone rates success differently; for me hearing Jayden celebrating a design win, Taya being inspired by the industry, Annie kicking digital goals, Tyhla launching new brands and our clients dominating in their fields is actually the true success!

And, I have created it!

So my disappointment is now an opportunity. An opportunity to continue to inspire, to lead, to be courageous, to take risks and to grow alongside my incredible team.

To all the businesses out there having a crack #yougotthis!
