There is no denying it, spring has arrived and with the warmer weather upon us our social calendars are filling up fast. In the last month Toowoomba has been treated to some fabulous events including the iconic Carnival of Flowers, Spring Polo, fashion events, long lunches and the list goes on.
Spring is also when Horse Racing is thrust into the limelight and there is no bigger event than The Melbourne Cup Carnival – after all it is the race that stops a nation.
However, there is more to spring carnival than just the horses! The fashion, the facsinators, the fun, the hats, the champagne, the decadence, the flutter, the celebrities, the excitement….I could go on but my heart is racing (see what I did there?)! It truly is the Sport of Kings in every element and it is all on display for three months of the year climaxing with Melbourne Cup week.
For anyone who enjoys a “day out at the races” I highly recommend a trip to Melbourne to experience what is on offer, the city is truly electrifying. Ladies, take note, go to Melbourne with your outfit prepared because the racks are empty, people are fighting over the last pair of shoes and some of the hats cost a small fortune.
If you can’t make the trip to Melbourne this year there are a plethora of events scheduled in Toowoomba, catering for a variety of different styles and budgets. If you’re looking for somewhere to attend make sure you do your research, plan-ahead and book early as tickets sell fast. I’ve compiled my top four – Fitzy’s on Church, The Birdcage at Blank Space, Urban Grounds and of course Clifford Park Racecourse.
Enjoy Melbourne Cup and I might see you in the Birdcage!
