2018 in review

December 20,2018

It’s hard to believe that I have attempted to write our end of year newsletter four times without success (and let’s face it I’m generally not lost for words)!

So, as I sit here typing in the dying hours before Christmas with kids yelling at each other, a mower in the background and what feels like each one of our neighbours trimming their hedges I have some “quiet” time to reflect on the year that was at RSM and why I am struggling to put it into words.

Bluntly, it was a big year across the board and nearly everyone I speak with is singing from the same hymn sheet – “where did the year go”, “we are exhausted”, “this year has been a tough slog” and the list goes on.

Personally, I am feeling emotional with a mixed bag of sadness, happiness, joy, satisfaction, fear, guilt (especially the mum guilt) but most of all – proud.

Proud that what we set out to achieve in January 2018 we have successfully achieved, proud of our clients and their growth, proud of the events we executed and proud of our team and the fact that we are still standing after a huge year.

Business is hard and just when you think things are running smoothly something knocks you over, a staff member leaving, a client unhappy, financial strains, some days it might just take your lunch order to be wrong to tip you overboard!

So, why do we keep persevering? Because we love it!  Good days, bad days and everything in between shape the business and the people we want to be (and most of the time it’s not without blood, sweat and tears).

At RSM we aim to be the best we possibly can be, to exceed expectations, to hustle to get that front page story for our clients, to align with fantastic suppliers, to deliver an A-class event and to be ahead of the game.

As we reflect on 2018 (and believe me I have watched this video 25 times) we have already started our planning for 2019 and repositioning the business.  Next year marks five years for RSM and I can’t wait to kick some more goals together with my team.

But first, I’m excited to enjoy Christmas with my friends and family (as well as some sneaky champagnes of course!).

Wishing you all a safe and merry Christmas, enjoy our video recap and see you in the New Year!
